Platinum-selling Christian band For King & Country was founded by brothers Luke and Joel Smallbone. The two musicians were born in Australia and grew up in Nashville, Tennessee. Hence their music is deeply rooted in the city’s abundant alternative rock scene. The duo emerged in 2007 as Joel & Luke and released a couple of extended play albums. Two years after their debut, the Smallbone brothers changed their name to For King & Country after signing a record deal with Warner Music. Their self-titled EP was dropped in 2011 and spawned their major label debut single, “Busted Heart (Hold On To Me).” The single marked their breakthrough into Billboard’s Christian Songs chart.
The following year, For King & Country dropped their debut studio album, Crave. The record entered the Billboard 200 chart and peaked at number 4 on the Top Christian Albums. The albym featured the duo’s debut single, “Busted Heart,” as well as the second single off the album, “The Proof of Your Love.” After a stellar debut, the duo released their follow-up album Rin Wild. Live Free. Love Strong. The 2014 album debuted at number 2 on the Christian charts and number 13 on the Billboard 200. The album, which featured two number 1 gold-certified singles, “Fix My Eyes” and “Shoulders,” won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album.
In 2018, For King & Country released their first single to go platinum in the U.S. “Joy.” The song topped two Christian Billboards charts and entered two more pop category charts. The single comes from the duo’s 2018 studio album, Burn the Ships, which also spawned the number 1 title track and Grammy Award-winning collaboration single with Dolly Parton, “God On Knows.” In 2020, Burn the Ships won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album. This 2023, For King & Country, will embark on a massive tour to promote their latest effort, What Are We Waiting For? The album spawned two number-1 hit singles, “Relate” and “For God is With Us.” Apart from winning several Grammy Awards, For King & Country bagged 13 GMA Dove Awards and a Billboard Music Award.
