This 2023, Michael Franti & Spearhead return to the road for their highly-anticipated summer run. The band embarks on a mission to spread love across the nation a beyond. In a statement, Franti mentioned that Big Big Love “represents being able to hold space for the micro and the macro of love.” The critically-acclaimed performer and renewed activist expounded that everyone has someone they love, whether it’s their child, spouse, pet, or friend. But then there’s holding space to love people of difference – people who are in the midst of war, people where there is pain and suffering.” Franti has been known to advocate for peace. In 2005, he released a film titled I Know I’m Not Alone. During filming, Franti and his team embarked on a three-week journey across the middle east. Franti continues his mission of advocating for peace through his music. “You show up as love, determination, and spirit in those places where people really need a caring soul connection to help them heal. That’s what big big love is: holding space for the personal and the worldly.”

In 2001, Franti’s advocacies earned him the Domestic Human Rights Award from the Global Exchange. Five years later, Australian Prime Minister Jenny Macklin showed Franti’s film at the Parliament House in Canberra. Moreover, In 2013, Franti founded Do It For Love, a wish-granting non-profit organization.

All of Franti’s advocacies align with the message in his music. Since the release of his debut album, Home, in 1994, Franti has been singing songs of peace and camaraderie. Although based in the U.S., Franti actually made his first breakthrough in the international market. He finally made his U.S. breakthrough in 2003 with the release of Everyone Deserves Music. The album entered Billboard’s Heatseekers chart, peaking at number 25.

In 2006, Franti’s follow-up album Yell Fire! finally debuted at the Billboard 200. In addition to entering the mainstream chart, the album peaked at number 6 on the Top Independent Albums. The remarkable record featured tracks with guest performers, such as Pink for “One Step Closer to You” and Gentleman for “Is Love Enough?”

For his Big Big Love Tour, Franti will cover his 11-album repertoire, including his latest effort, Work Hard & Be Nice, released in 2020.
