Louisiana-born singer-songwriter and musician Kenny Wayne Shepherd has established himself as a significant purveyor of blues rock music in the U.S. The self-taught musician began playing the guitar at age seven and was profoundly inspired by the work of Stevie Ray Vaughan. By age 13, Shepherd performed with Bryan Lee on stage, followed by a solo performance at the Red River Revel Arts Festival.

At 18, he released his debut album, Ledbetter Heights. The album notably entered the Billboard 200 and topped the Blues chart. The record, which spawned Mainstream Rock performing hits “Deja Voodoo,” “Aberdeen,” and “Born with a Broken Heart,” was certified gold a year later after selling over 500,000 copies. Shepherd engaged in a number of tours and events to promote his debut album.

Two years after his phenomenal debut, he came out with another critically-acclaimed blues record, Trouble Is… The album peaked at number 74 on the Billboard 200 and topped the Blues chart. Like his debut album, Trouble Is… sold over 500,000 copies a year after its release. By 1998, the album had sold over one million copies, earning Shepherd his first platinum certification. That same year, He scored the incredible gig of opening for Van Halen for their North American Tour.

In 2004, Shepherd tried his hand at creating a hard rock album. His fourth effort, The Place You’re In, is his first album not to top the Billboard’s Blues chart. However, he remained a great contender on the Mainstream Rock hits, with two singles, “Alive” and “The Place You’re In,” peaking at numbers 13 and 30.

After the moderate success of his sole hard rock record, Shepherd returned to hits roots and began releasing blues rock albums once again. He released five more studio albums, all of which topped the Blues chart. Last year, Shepherd released two new singles, “True Lies” and “Ballad of a Thin Man,” from the 25th-anniversary edition of Trouble Is…
