Mountain Winery | Saratoga, California

Twenty-five years ago, many people around the world were enamored by a piece of heavily cultural music with charming string arrangements, snappy melodies, and deeply moving singing. This is thanks to a group of Spanish men born in France who played Flamenco and reignited the golden age of cultural music and dance. Gipsy Kings brought the cante (songs) to mainstream acclaim, and so the world responded by accepting it wholeheartedly, with many learning baile (dance) to sway with their songs here and there. Even after many years of playing, the band's engaging performances never dwindle. The vigor they had in their first album is still felt today in their nonstop touring. For years, one of their favorite stops has been the Saratoga landmark, the magnificent Mountain Winery Amphitheatre. They are back to perform in the Amphitheatre this August 16. Seemingly, it has become a tradition that they will perform here in August of every year. If you are near Saratoga and want a special event to go to, then Gipsy King's concert is perfect for you! Gipsy Kings gave a modern twist to Flamenco, starting with their establishment in 1978. Currently, the band consists of Nicolas Reyes and Tonino Baliardo. They continue the legacy put forth by the band for more than 20 years. They popularized rumba flamenco, a subgenre that combines rumba and pop. A highlight of their music is their mix of traditional Spanish music with a focus on Flamenco, rumba, salsa, and pop. Their music has been praised for capturing the attention of generations of listeners. They have received many platinum and gold certifications. Due to their nonstop touring, they are credited as the band that popularized Flamenco to a global audience. With them leaving an enduring legacy, their current goal is to be of influence to the newer generation, a reason why they tour nonstop. Nicolas Reyes and Tonino Baliardo continue the band currently.

The Gipsy Kings was formed in the 1970s. Brothers Nicolas and Andre Reyes fronted the band with their cousins Jacques, Maurice, and Tonino Baliardo. In the City of Ales, France, the band began performing on multiple occasions, such as weddings, birthday parties, and festivals. They also were busking on the streets. They were living like gypsies. Their lifestyle prompted them to change their name to Gypsy Kings. They were spirited performers, loving their traditional flamenco performances in different places in France. It might have taken a couple of years for them to gain traction, but they were getting a following strong thanks to Tonino's passionate guitar playing and Nicolas's great vocals. Two albums later, their dream of becoming big names in the flamenco scene became real. Their self-titled album was a game changer not just for them but also in the scene. This was because of their new twist to the genre, capturing people's hearts. In 1989, they struck gold as the album reached international airplay. The band ignited a buzz in Spain and the United States. This began their stratospheric success, with over 15 albums and making songs for films like "Toy Story 3." In 2013, they won a Grammy for Best World Music Album for "Savor Flamenco."
